May 01, 2009
Japanese Prime Minister and Chinese Premier are set to enter into a cooperation agreement, whereby both countries will jointly develop next-generation technologies for use in mobile phones, according to a Nikkei report on April 28. The initiative is expected to help Chinese companies develop state-of-art mobile phone technologies, and help Japanese companies make forays into the Chinese market and boost their market presence. In addition, the collaboration will include both the public and private sectors, consisting of 3G and 3.9G technologies, according to the same source. Currently, 3G is the mainstream technology in Japan, while 2G technology still dominates the Chinese market. Further details, however, were not yet disclosed.
